Shipping policy
HILL TRADECRAFT — SHIPPING POLICY
Effective Date: 12 September 2026
This Shipping Policy explains how shipping works when you send Hill Tradecraft a knife for Sharpening Services, whether by mail or in person. It supplements our Terms of Service, particularly Section 3 (Sharpening Services). If there is ever a conflict between this Shipping Policy and the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service will govern.
1. SENDING US YOUR KNIFE
Mail-In Orders. After you purchase Sharpening Services through our online store, we will email you a prepaid shipping label for sending your knife(s) to us. Please use the label we provide and follow the packaging instructions below.
2. PACKAGING YOUR ITEM
Please package your knife securely before shipping it to us:
● Cover the blade with thick cardboard, a sheath, or other rigid protection so it can't cut through the box. We highly recommend using a sheath for fixed blade knives. For folding knives, ensure the knife is folded shut and secured such that it cannot open during transit.
● Wrap the item in bubble wrap or similar padding so it can't shift around during transit. Multiple knives shipped in the same container can damage one another during transit if they are not properly padded or wrapped.
● Ship in a sturdy box — never in an envelope or soft mailer.
You are responsible for packaging your item adequately, even when you use the shipping label we provide. We are not responsible for damage caused by inadequate packaging.
3. WHAT OUR SHIPPING LABEL COVERS
When you purchase our sharpening services, a shipping label is provided which includes $100 worth of shipping insurance. It is up to you to purchase a separate shipping label if you want additional shipping insurance for your knife(s). You can coordinate with us via e-mail if you’d like to purchase your own label and insurance.
4. RISK OF LOSS IN TRANSIT TO US OR FROM US
We are not responsible for packages lost in transit. We recommend keeping your tracking number until you've confirmed delivery. If your package is lost or damaged in transit and the label we provided included carrier insurance, we will reasonably assist you in filing a claim with the carrier, but we do not guarantee the outcome of any claim and are not otherwise responsible for loss or damage that occurs before we receive your item.
5. TURNAROUND TIME
We aim to have your knife returned to you in about a week after receipt. This is an estimate only and is not guaranteed; we are not liable for delays caused by order volume, equipment issues, carrier delays, or other circumstances outside our reasonable control. We'll email you when your item ships back to you or is ready for pickup.
6. RETURNING YOUR SHARPENED ITEM
Mail-In Orders. Once Sharpening Services are complete, we will ship your item back to you. Tracking information will be provided to the e-mail you provided at checkout.
In-Person Orders. We will notify you when we have completed your order and when we have delivered them.
7. SHIPPING COSTS
Shipping is a flat $15 fee, unless five or more mail-in sharpening services are purchased at checkout.
8. UNCLAIMED OR UNDELIVERABLE ITEMS
If a returned package is refused or undeliverable, or if you do not arrange pickup within 60 days after we notify you that your item is ready, we may treat the item as abandoned in accordance with our Terms of Service, which may include selling, donating, or disposing of it to recover unpaid fees and handling costs.
9. WHERE AND WHAT WE SHIP
We currently accept mail-in items from customers located in the continental United Stated. We cannot accept certain restricted blade types — such as switchblades, gravity knives, or other knives restricted under federal, state, or local law — for shipment.
